INTERVIEW SHOWREEL
Interviews are a cornerstone of modern documentary film. They provide exposition for the viewer, connection with the characters, and add a perspective on the story. I've shot hundreds over my career, some with large lighting setups, and some under a tree in the corner of a park. It's the connection created with the person being interviewed that is of the greatest importance.
They can take many kinds of forms through location, lighting and camera choices. How we see the storyteller is important, and should aspire to reflect the colour of the story that is being told.
When on location, despite the best plans, you can find yourself in some interesting places. A jungle with harsh midday sun, or a dark chapel within a city. The challenge is to create a frame that reflects the interviewee and can be sustained throughout the interview.
This page is an example of some of my recent work from various locations across the world.

Down the Lens.
An Interview cinematography style that involves the interviewee looking into the lens of the camera. This style makes the audience feel like they are being addressed by the interviewee directly, creating a sense of personal connection and intimacy.

Classic two-shot.
The dual-angle interview setup. One camera with a wide view showing the interviewee within an environment, with a tighter second angle to provide emotional connection. Often used when the setting of an interview is also conveying something about the story or character. Additional cameras can be used for alternative angles.
